When I worked as managing editor for the books division at Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, we churned out dozens of books on everything from healthy eating to holiday cookies. I wrote a sewing book for Taunton Press that pulled from Threads magazine; a few years later, I combed back issues of Fine Gardening for a book on flowering shrubs. I’ve adapted a television series and a Ken Burns documentary, mined AARP’s website for a bookazine series, and even found one or two new things to write about the Beatles.
